Excitement over the G1 Android phone

This is hardly news, but my growing excitement for this phone has prompted me to post a blog for it.

Now, sure, there isn't a lot that the iPhone can't do. The G1 does a lot of the same. But the Android platform is something that I've been excited about for years now, and it's been a long time since I've even looked forward to a phone. I used to import phones all the time; in fact I'm using a red Nokia E61i currently. But now that the first Android-powered phone is here, I'm ready to buy an American phone again.

This device is of course manufactured by HTC, like all other carrier-branded phones. From what I've seen and heard, the G1 feels somewhat cheap and low-quality when compared to the iPhone, but then so do a lot of things. My guess is that it's lighter, and plastic-y. You can actually already tell just by looking at some of the pictures. But, I don't mind, just this once. I'm in it for the OS! (Not to mention the REAL qwerty keypad.. touchscreen qwerty FTL.) Android will hopefully open new doors for developers worldwide, to have a more advanced programming platform that should spread over enough devices to be very universal.

Plus, my t-mobile contract ends late this month around when the phone launches anyway :] yay. Take a step down to check out the official google vid on the Android OS, as well as more info on the G1 from t-mobile.
